A Fall Weekend In NYC – Part 1

My DH and I recently had the opportunity to take a long weekend in New York City. We ate, froze, walked our feet to nubbins, and loved every minute of our too short stay. This city is truly awe-inspiring and I forgot just how at home and at ease it makes me feel. This is the first batch of pictures processed from that trip.

Welcome to New York

Welcome to the Big Apple – LaGuardia airport.

Wall St.

If you look close, the falling leaves look like yellow tickertape.

Battery Park

A frigid but beautiful Battery Park. The scouring winds kept most people away from the unprotected tip of NYC the day we went.

Navy Monument

Part of the WWII monument in Battery Park.

Whoo hoo! This promises to make our sausage stuffing life much easier. The Kitchenaid stuffer attachment sucks.

Happy would-be birthday, Ma. I made carbonara to celebrate. Even though I was missing ingredients, the dish still kicked ass.

This aint diet food. Potato and Carrot Duck Hash, cooked in … wait for it … liquid gold (duck fat). So rich, so ducky.

November 15, 2011

It hadnt ever occurred to me that one can peel a pumpkin with a vegetable peeler until watching a pumpkin pro do so on Food Networks Halloween Wars. Until today, Ive been using a cleaver to peel my squash because thats how I roll.

Still decompressing from the Big Apple; dinner at the nearest diner.

Home again, home again, jiggedy-jig.

Our Big Apple souvenir – a Dalek made out of ARC-welded motorcycle parts scrap metal by the artists at Metal Park. We picked it up at Bryant Park, where the Holiday Shop kiosks had just opened (along with an ice skating rink). Too bad we didnt have more time to explore the NY Public Library – the original toys the Pooh characters are based on were there, along with the Gutenberg Bible and Jack Kerouacs harmonica.

Subway sculpture. This was just one of the mini scenes portrayed in bronze throughout the terminal depicting everything from subway workers and patrons to fat cats, political figures and city officials.

The Empire State Building all done up for Veterans Day from Top of the Rock (30 Rockefeller Center 70th floor). Thanks, love.
